Mob Beat Woman To Pulp To Stealing Fish

An angry mob yesterday beat a 41 year old woman to a pulp for allegedly stealing six fresh fish from a cartoon.

The incident occurred at the Ogbogonogo market in Asaba, Delta state.

According to reports, the woman, Ifunanyan (surname withheld) a mother of three children and a tailor, hoodwinked the fish seller that her baby crawled into gutter outside the market premises during process she was negotiating the prices for the six fish.

It was gathered that the fish seller a nursing mother of a baby of nine months, on hearing the bad news abandoned her carton of fish and raced to the main road where the suspect said the baby crawled into but to her surprised, her baby was found with a co- trader in a different line in the market playing, a situation she raced back in happiness to her store, unfortunately the suspect had disappeared into the thin air.

Sources said while a search party was conducting the owner of the fish was said to have screamed for help which attracted angry mob within the market popularly called “Akpobi” who swung into action to fish out the suspect while waiting for keke to take her way.

She was said to have been beaten and handed over to the police at A Division in Asaba where she confessed to the crime, saying that it was the devil’s work.

Some police officers, who did not want their names in the print, confirmed that the suspect will be detained for further investigation, adding the fish and N2, 000 were recovered in her bag.
