Eight lawyers are to appear before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for disciplinary action over alleged professional misconduct.

They were recommended for disciplinary action by the National Judicial Council (NJC), a Friday statement read.

LPDC is a committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) responsible for dealing with complaints against lawyers in the country.

According to the statement, the legal practitioners were recommended for discipline at an NJC virtual meeting held between April 22 and 23.

The affected legal practitioners are: Apeiyi Becon Clement, Ifeanyi Egwasi, Nwafor Orizu, Godwin Nkemjika Chukwukwere and Akopde Haggai Ukuku.

Others are: Chief Emefo Etudo, Osamudiamen Obarogie and B. S. Onuegbu.

The lawyers were said to have engaged in various unprofessional acts ranging from unruly behaviour, walking out of court in the cause of proceedings, to submission of false documents to court and so on.

“Council also decided to report Messrs Apeiyi Becon Clement, Ifeanyi Egwasi, Nwafor Orizu, Godwin Nkemjika Chukwukwere, Akopde Haggai Ukuku, Chief Emefo Etudo, Osamudiamen Obarogie and B. S. Onuegbu to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for various acts unbecoming of a Legal Practitioner ranging from unruly behaviour, walking out of Court in the cause of proceedings to submission of false documents to Court,” the statement read in part.
