Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, has called on the senate to ensure that all ministerial nominees publicly declare their assets before their confirmation as minister.
In a statement by its President, Bobboi Bala Kaigama and Secretary General, Musa Lawal, TUC insisted that since President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo declared their assets, members of their cabinet should also follow suit.
TUC said “We do not need ministers who are only interested in buying and paying cash for mortgages in choice cities all over the world.
“We are on the same page with other well-meaning Nigerians, who feel that the President has already taken too long to form a formidable team. But a few more days should suffice for the Senate and the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to investigate the nature, value and locations of declared assets.”
Screening of Ministerial Nominees will commence on Tuesday, October 13. On that same day, 36 state governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum will also be meeting to discuss how to proffer solutions to the problems beguiling the country.
In a statement yesterday by NGF chairman and Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, he said the meeting will be held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
Yari said: “The meeting will receive presentations from strategic MDAs and development partners regarding their proposed reforms and supports to states of the federation.
“The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Federal Ministry of Health/World Bank, Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, and the UK Department for International Development, DFID, are also to make presentations at the meeting.
“The United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, are also expected to make presentations at the meeting among others.”
