Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the spokesperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress and ministerial nominee from Kwara state, has said that he deserved the ministerial nomination he was given.
Mohammed was reacting to protests by youths in Kwara South under the aegis of the Coalition Groups of APC members who described his nomination as cheating.
While speaking to journalists in Abuja, he said he registered in Oro, his hometown, alongside his family and worked assiduously to deliver his local government for the party and also helped the House of Representatives member representing the area to win the seat, a claim he told the protesters to verify.
He admitted not being present in the state during the general elections but said he had pressing issues to attend to on behalf of the party which superseded the casting of a single vote in Kwara state.
On the allegation that he was a “Lagos politician,” he said that since no one could deny his Kwara roots, he had the right to live in any place of his choice all over Nigeria and deserved the ministerial nomination.
The lawyer-turned-politician countered the allegation that his son was a member of the Lagos state House of Assembly by saying that it was his son’s reward for the meritorious service rendered to the people of the Lagos area he represented and had nothing to do with his own ministerial nomination.
