Arsenal’s captain Mikel Arteta might have sustained an injury which will keep him on the sidelines for a long time.
The Spaniard who sprained his ankle on colliding with Demba Ba on Tuesday’s match against Besiktas sustained an ankle injury and was forced out of UEFA Champions League play-off first le. He has also been ruled out of the Gunners trip to Everton this weekend.
On the other hand Arsene Wenger is considering securing a replacement for Arteta before closure of transfer market on September 1st, he is also left with the option of giving defensive midfieder Mathieu Flamin a chance to step up his game and vie for the positon held by Arteta.
Speaking on Thursday, the Frenchman said “If it’s a long-term injury [for Arteta] that puts us in a position where we have to be creative.
“We are not in an emergency case but we are open to any opportunity to strengthen our defensive department.”
