Microsoft Founder, Bill Gates, has thrown his weight behind the FBI in the ongoing battle against Apple over unlocking an iPhone in the probe of last year’s deadly San Bernardino attacks.
Gates who against other Silicon Valley companies has thrown his weight behind the government in the case said technology companies should be compelled and forced to cooperate with law enforcement in terrorism investigations.
Apple Chief, Tim Cook had refused to hack the phone of one of the attackers, claiming the government was looking for a back door into the phones.
Gates, disagreed with Tim Cook’s stand on the matter, his disagreement coming a day after polls indicated that a majority of Americans want the iPhone unlocked, thus backing the FBI.
Reports from the Pew Research Center survey on the polls indicated that 51 percent of respondents supported the effort to require Apple to help unlock the iPhone, 38 percent supported Apple’s refusal to unlock the phone
The current battle between the FBI and Apple opens up a new front in the long-running battle between technology companies and the government over encryption.
