2 Min Read

A Micro Finance Bank in Lagos on Tuesday sued one of its workers, Kendy Ezewulobi, at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1,832,574.

Ezewulobi, 31, of Ketu area of Lagos is being tried on a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretence and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, the defendant diverted the money between July and Sept. 2019 at Ile- Ile, Ketu in Lagos.

Ihiehie said that the defendant was employed by the bank in 2018 and assigned with a daily collection of cash from customers.

He said that the defendant had between July 5, 2018, and Sept. 13, 2019, collected N1,832,574 from the bank, claiming that nine of their customers needed their money.

Ihiehie said the bank was surprised when some of the customers complained that the bank was yet to pay them,  which made it to investigate the documents submitted by the defendant.

The complainant, Beyond Credit Micro Finance Bank, explained that some of its customers were illiterate or semi-literate and that made them rely on Ezewulobi to collect money on their behalf.

Ihiehie told the court that the defendant had been collecting money from the bank in the customers’ names, but failed to give them.
