The Ballon d’or is one of the prestigious awards celebrating football icons. Over the years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have each won the Men’s Ballon d’Or category five times.

Didier Drogba,  former Ivorien French player and Sandy Heribert, a French English TV Presenter hosted the awards ceremony which held at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris on December 2, 2019.

However,  2019 edition of the prestigious Awards saw Lionel Messi scooping up the 2019 best player of the year award, therefore breaking the tie, with his sixth win.

Messi also beat the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, a skilled Liverpool defender , Kylian Mbappe of France to clinch the prize.
