Lionel Messi will miss the next three weeks of action for Barcelona after walking out injured in the club’s pulsating 4-2 over in-form Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
Despite helping the club with a goal and an assist, Messi came off for Ousmane Dembele in the 26th minute as he could not continue after landing awkwardly on his right arm under pressure from Franco Vasquez.
A club statement read, “Tests carried out on Leo Messi have confirmed that he has a fracture of the radial bone in his right arm. He will be out for approximately three weeks.”
The injury will see him miss the club’s Champions League game against Inter Milan on Wednesday, next weekend’s El Clasico against Real Madrid, the following league game against Rayo Vallecano and possibly the return leg of the UCL clash against Inter on November 6.
Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde described the injury to the 31-year-old Argentine as a “clear blow” to the club.
He said,
“It is clear it is a blow. We know what he gives us and we know what he does to the opposition.
“We have to prepare ourselves, it is clear we are going to notice the loss of Messi but we have players that can cover.”
