The two will captain their respective sides at the World Cup with Messi hoping that Argentina can do one better from the last World cup where they were the beaten finalists and Portugal will be hoping to build from their Euro 2016 win and make another miracle in Russia.
Speaking in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo, the Argentine wizard named some of the players he felt would star at the World Cup– his main rival was not one of the names named.
‘Brazil have Ney and Philippe,’ he said
He added: ‘Spain have Andres Iniesta and Silva. Germany don’t have any one star but they are very solid.
‘Belgium have Hazard and De Bruyne. France have Griezmann and Mbappe.
‘The tournament is full of very good players.’
Argentina is in the same group with Nigeria, with Iceland and Croatia making up the group which has been said by many to be the group of death.
Argentina are no strangers having met in the last World Cup and on numerous occasions over the years
