Police Arraign Two Men For Alleged Theft Of N1.2m Iron Rod

The police in Osun on Friday arraigned two men, Tijani Kazeem, 32 and Kamoru Fatai, 33,  for allegedly stealing iron rods worth N1.2 million.

Kazeem, 32 and Fatai, 33,  are facing charges of conspiracy and stealing in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court.

They, however,  pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in December 2019 at Damico area of Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendants stole the iron rods belonging to one Opadayo Ayokunle.

He said the defendants also stole the complainant’s 299 bags of cement.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mr Joseph Owolawi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

Owolawi said that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade  Level 10.

Owolawi adjourned the case till Feb. 3 for mention.
