Melinda Gates Foundation partners Aisha Buhari’s NGO

2 Min Read

Future Assured’ initiative, an NGO of the wife of the President, Mrs Ai’sha Buhari, is to partner with the Melinda Gates Foundation to address challenges facing women and vulnerable children in Nigeria.

This announcement was contained in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria by her Special Assistant on Media, Adebisi Olumide-Ajayi, on Tuesday in Abuja.

She said that the partnership would be perfected when members of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation meet Mrs Buhari on Thursday to discuss issues on improving the lives of women and children.

” Women and children face numerous challenges and vulnerabilities, yet, until recently, they have hardly been the centre of discussion at the global and national levels” she said.

Olumide-Ajayi said Mrs Buhari and the philanthropist Melinda Gates are set to change this narrative with the partnership between the two humanitarian group.

” The meeting comes as an aftermath of one of the side meetings at the 71st UN General Assembly geared towards improving the lives of women and girls, where African First Ladies were gathered to make commitments to the development of adolescent girls in Africa.”

Olumide-Ajayi said that the Thursday’s meeting was expected to also have in attendance wives of the governors of the 36 states and the FCT Minister, and other relevant stakeholders (NAN).
