The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has said that the failure of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to personally honour an invitation extended to him by the chamber has never happened since Nigeria’s democracy commenced.
He said this while reacting to Idris’s failure to honour, on Wednesday, a senate invitation to explain the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of Sen. Dino Melaye (APC – Kogi West) by the police.
The Herald Nigeria can report that Idris shunned the summon for the second time on Wednesday, sending the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila, instead.
“I don’t think that this has ever happened before,” Saraki said.
The Senate President asked the Majority Leader, Ahmad Lawan, and Chairman of the Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, to engage with the executive on the matter.
He urged the team to report to the house in a week.
