Medical Expert Tasks Mothers on Child-Spacing

2 Min Read

A Medical Expert, Dr Hassan Adelakun, has advised women of child-bearing age to embrace effective child-spacing methods and pay more attention to their reproductive health to prevent maternal mortality.

Adelakun gave the advice at Aiyetoro, Ogun, on Friday at a lecture and advocacy programme for stakeholders in child and maternity care organised by Ogun State Government in collaboration with Rotary International.

He noted that the global world was concerned with the rate at which women and children were dying as a result of pregnancy-related complications.

He called for concerted efforts of all and sundry to combat the challenge.

Adelakun, Director, Ambulance and Emergency Services, Ogun Ministry of Health, appreciated the involvement of Rotary International for the support to the state government, particularly on the well-being of women and children.

He urged the organisation not to relent in creating awareness on the importance of family planning as well as the myths and misconceptions associated with it.

In his presentation, the Chief Medical Director, General Hospital, Ayetoro, Dr Olawale Maku, noted that family planning was cost-effective with a beneficial impact on the government and the people.

He urged participants to enlighten their families on their benefits.

Maku applauded the state government for the procurement of equipment and renovation of some of the health facilities.

He called for the recruitment of more health personnel in the sector.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Chief Imam of Ayetoro, Alhaji Ganiyu Ajakore and Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Samuel Ayanyemi, said the lecture was an eye-opener.

They enjoined other participants to spread the knowledge gained.

They appealed for continuous sensitisation of people to promote the well-being of the family and improvement of the socio-economic development of the state.
