In the wake of public criticism over the procurement of 2023 model Toyota Prado vehicles for 469 members of the National Assembly, popular Nigerian singer, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, widely known as Mayorkun, has taken to his Snapchat page to address the issue. He implored lawmakers to shift their focus from acquiring new vehicles to the pressing issue of road infrastructure repair across Nigeria.
As Nigerians expressed their disapproval of the vehicle purchases, Sunday Karimi, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Services, had defended the decision, citing the deplorable state of Nigerian roads as a justification.
However, Mayorkun’s message on social media was a straightforward call for lawmakers to prioritize road repairs. He stated, “Roads are in terrible condition, yet you are buying new SUVs. Fix the roads! Lekki-Epe Express is terrible! It’s disheartening to see. In this country, there’s nothing like ‘I can drive’ – I know the road; is a better compliment.”
