Mauro Icardi took his PSG goal tally to 17 goals with a sublime hat-trick performance when they played Saint-Etienne in the French League Cup.
The Inter Milan loanee scored two minutes into the match before Saint-Etienne were reduced to 10-men when Wesley Fofana was shown to the dugout for a second bookable offence.
Neymar dinked the goalkeeper before Jessy Moulin put one in his own net to make it 3-0 at the interval.
Icardi got two goals in the second half before Kylian Mbappe rounded off the whooping. Former Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye headed one back for the losing side but it hardly was a consolation.
The game was alive and well contested until the sending off. From then on, things went downhill for the visitors. First Neymar scored and then Di Maria’s cross ricocheted several times off defenders and the upright before ending up in the back of the net.
Di Maria gave away a penalty later in the game that led to the visitors only goal of the match. Goalkeeper Sergio Rico saved the initial effort but could do nothing about the headed rebound.
Icardi has now scored 17 in 19 appearances for the French champions.
PSG are joined by Stade Reims, Lyon and Lille in the last four.
