Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Oyewole are being tried for creating a false line on which they impersonated Ambode, the Governor of Lagos.
The two suspects sent a text message on the 10th of February 2016 to Mrs Abimbola Shukurat Umar The State’s Accountant General stating she should send N50m to a designated Keystone Bank account.
Mrs Umar, who was providing the evidence under the jurisdiction of Mr. Adenijii Kazeem the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said “I found the message suspicious and highly irregular of the official accounting protocol.”
She then took the message to Governor Ambode who disclaimed the message and ordered an investigation.
The investigation conducted by the Department of State Security led to the tracking down and arrest of the suspects, who were arraigned in the Lagos High Court Igbosere, before Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya on three counts bordering on the possession of fraudulent documents, impersonation and attempt to commit a felony.
Mr. Wale Odu, Directors of DSS, Lagos State Command was called to the witness stand to provide evidence. He verified that the investigation which led to the arrest of the culprits was manned by his team.
“Oyewole is one of the directors and shareholders of a firm, Clayder Limited to whose Keystone Bank account, the N50m would have been paid.
The suspects are to await trail at Kirikiri Medium Security Prison until to February 14th 2018.
