Mastermind Kidnapper Evans Suffers Huge Blow During Trial

2 Min Read

A suspected kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans who has been fingered as the mastermind behind a spate of kidnappings that plagued Lagos state and he allegedly made billions from his trade, has suffered a huge setback after his counsel withdrew from his case.

Olukoya Ogungbeje who played the role of Evan’s counsel, stated that he is withdrawing from the case on ‘personal reasons’

He made this known in a statement which he himself signed and he said;

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that we have fought a good fight this far despite repeated and sustained threats to my life and my defence lawyers.

“I dare say we have no regrets whatsoever, having conducted the criminal charges involving our client this far.

“For the sake of history, we have been able to enrich the basic principles of our criminal jurisprudence, especially the principle premised on “An accused person being presumed innocent until the contrary is proved” no matter the public opinion and criticism”.

Evans is facing 5 charges before three Lagos High Court judges, Justice Hakeem Oshodi, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo and Justice Adedayo Akintoye.

Evans’ case before Justice Hakeem Oshodi will resume on June 22nd where he along with Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba will face two-counts of conspiracy and kidnapping.
