Chelsea’s already abysmal season has suffered a massive blow following a disclosure by team doctors that defender Kurt Zouma will be out for up to six months following an injury sustained in Sunday’s cracker against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
According to a club statement, the defender, one of the few bright spots in the season, suffered an injury to his right anterior cruciate knee injury.
The French defender lifted into the air in an attempt to clear the ball in his own half and landed awkwardly on his leg, bellowing a loud cry that suggested he was in bad shape.
However, club fans probably would not have probably expected that the 21-year-old will be side-lined for that long, as the club hangs precariously 7 points above the relegation zone.
The statement said he would be undergoing surgery in the next 48 hours.
“Chelsea Football Club’s medical team have diagnosed that Kurt Zouma sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament during yesterday’s (Sunday) Premier League game against Manchester United. Kurt will undergo surgery in the next 48 hours and is expected to be out for approximately six months,” the statement read,
He is expected to miss Euro 2016 scheduled to hold in his homeland between in June and the remainder of Chelsea’s season.
