Abuja, the nation’s administrative center is under fire as peaceful protesters demanding the immediate release of persons set free by the courts were reportedly disbanded by live police gunshots.
According to reports reaching Herald.ng, the incident occurred yesterday Wednesday, July 22 where officers of the Abuja Division of Nigerian Police Force opened fire on protesters leaving scores of people dead and brutally injured.

A twitter user who goes by the name @IsmaforlifeNig posted a video of a lady who was allegedly shot by police officers for peacefully protesting the release of persons set free by the courts.
He wrote:
She is Batoul by name.
She was shot in her head her crime was engaging in a peaceful protest demanding the immediate and unconditional release of persons whose court set them free.@PoliceNG Killed her.@amnesty @IntlCrimCourt#MassacreInAbuja

In the video, the woman appeared to be gasping for breath while fighting for her after life sustaining gunshot wounds to the head.
@IsmaforlifeNig also posted a video of persons dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms firing multiple gunshots at unarmed civilians. He alleged that they were security officials firing multiple rounds at peaceful protesters during what was termed AbujaMasscre.

In another tweet posted by @IsmaforlifeNig, photographs displayed victims who had sustained head injuries from the alleged shooting.

The Police Divisional Headquarters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is yet to make an official statement to address the incident.
