The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, who was in Nigeria few weeks ago has a goal bigger than connecting the whole world through the Internet.
Mark and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have the dream to eradicate diseases by the end of this century.
The couple to this end have earmarked a $3billion donation over the next 10 years to speed basic scientific research which includes creating research tools ranging from softwares to hardwares.
The goal is to “cure, manage and prevent all diseases in the next 80 years”.
The couple acknowledge that it might sound crazy but pointed out how far medicine has come in the last century with the development of vaccines, heart transplants and chemotherapy.
Zuckerberg and Chan hope that their effort will inspire other far-reaching efforts and collaboration in science, medicine and engineering, so that basic research is no longer pushed to the sidelines.
Chan’s work as a pediatrician might also have been a big influence on why the couple have taken on this huge cause.
