Man’s Kidneys Disappear After Surgery In Adamawa

A 23-year-old man has been thrown into confusion after his kidneys disappeared following a surgical operation.

Trouble started when Isa Hamma of ChaffaJaule village in Fufore local government area of Adamawa State appeared at the Jimeta Clinic and Maternity on account of an ailment.

Following tests and diagnosis, drugs were administered to him and he was discharged with the promise to come back after three days to follow up on the progress of his health.

Narrating the bizarre incident, Mallam Umaru Isa Yahya, the elder brother of the victim said upon return for the scheduled follow up test, the doctor handling his brother’s case, Doctor Yakubu Hassan informed them that the ailment required a surgical procedure which costs N50,000,00.

Umaru further said that upon mobilisation of the required sum and completion of the said surgery, the victim, his brother, could not urinate which resulted to swelling of his body.

He said: “On seeing the condition of the patient, he, (the doctor) referred us to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe on the account that the case was beyond his limit”

Yahya however said that medical personnel at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe revealed to them that the “kidneys of the victim were removed after he underwent surgical nephrectomy at the Jimeta Clinic and can only survive if another kidney is planted in him or he begins to live on hemodialysis”.

Following the revelation, they were referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola where the family spends not less than N40, 000, 00 weekly for the patent’s dialysis.

The doctor who conducted the surgical procedure at the Jimeta Clinic, Doctor Yakubu Hassan when contacted said the patient was operated because of an ailment that has nothing to do with kidneys.
