Manchester United’s 2016/2017 Title Prospects

2 Min Read

In a league that holds the unexpected; Manchester United’s prospects are at least as enticing as any other.

After three post Ferguson seasons of wild spending but dull football, they finally seem to have gotten it right with some key and somewhat inspiring signings.

I’d say even a lot of non-United fans will be pretty excited by this – apart from Man City fans, that is!

The mighty Zlatan is the only player to have won thirteen championships in four different leagues and, along with former Red Devil Cristiano Ronaldo, to have scored a goal in every minute of a football match during their careers.

Jose Mourinho’s three Premier League titles (2004/05, 2005/06 and 2014/15) across two spells at Stamford Bridge are among 22 major trophies the 53-year-old has won as a manager at Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

The Special One wins wherever he goes and boasts an outstanding 66% win ratio from 212 Premier League matches (140 wins, 38 defeats, 34 draws).

In his first season in England back in 2004/05, his Chelsea side won the Premier League by a whopping 95 points – a record that is yet to be surpassed – with his goalkeeper Petr Cech conceding just 15 goals all season.

The team has already been bolstered by the £30m signing of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund.

The youngsters, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, will also be pivotal in the Red Devil’s quest for domestic glory.

With the 2016/17 season shaping up to be the most competitive Premier League campaign for decades, United certainly have their work cut out for them.

Things haven’t been right at Old Trafford for many years, but all the signs are pointing to a return to the good old days – the fear factor, the unbeatable defence, the talismanic striker, the hungry youngsters and, of course, the world-beating manager.
