Both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have been tipped to sign Argentine, Lionel Messi, claims Sport.
The Barcelona forward has turned in a transfer request, however, any transfer away from the club would mean breaking the bank, with French side PSG and Premier League giants Man United as the two clubs having the lead to likely get through with a deal .
However L’Equipe reports that Lionel Messi is unlikely to move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer,.
His high wage, which is greater than that of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar combined, means that they would have to flout UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations to stand a chance of sealing a deal. Another option is to sell one of their key players, something they do not think is feasible.
Manchester City Head Coach, Pep Guardiola has also shown interest in Messi. He recently held talks with the Argentine International and would be excited to be reunited with the wantaway Barcelona star at Manchester City.
With The six-time Ballon d’Or winner handing in a transfer request to the Camp Nou side, Barcelona have insisted that he still has a €700 million (£630m/$825m) release clause in his contract, which runs until 2021, and that is set to be a contentious issue regarding his demand to leave.
His decision to leave heightened from a disappointing campaign that saw Barca lose their grip on the Spanish title to Real Madrid and crash out of the Champions League in humiliating style to Bayern Munich as they suffered an 8-2 defeat.
In the aftermath of that loss, head coach Quique Setien was sacked but that was not enough to console Messi, who subsequently had contact with Guardiola before indicating to the club his desire to leave.
Pep Guardiola is highly interested in signing the Argentine forward and City are one of the few clubs with the financial capacity of absorbing the Argentina international’s wage.
The relationship between the two men remains very close, having worked previously together at Barca, where Messi has spent the entire duration of his senior career after first moving to the club in 2001.
Guardiola was successful in coaching the Catalans during his spell with their first team, which spanned from 2008 to 2012. He won the treble in his first season in charge, with six major honours arriving in 2009 alone. Six more would follow before his departure.
