Manchester City and Chelsea officially announced today that they will face each other in an exhibition match to be played at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, May 25.
The friendly between Manchester City and Chelsea is the second match between both teams scheduled to be played in the US this summer. City plays Chelsea on Thursday, May 23 in St. Louis in a match where tickets sold out in 20 minutes.
This will be Manchester City’s third trip to North America in four years. Chelsea played in the States last summer in several high-profile friendlies.
“Since [Manchester] City’s visit to the United States in 2010, our relationship with North American fans has continued to grow,” said Ferran Soriano, CEO of Manchester City Football Club. “We are enthusiastic believers in the development of soccer in the US and have seen first-hand the passion that North American supporters have for the beautiful game. We are delighted to bring City to their doorstep.”
“Spending the week in St Louis and New York also provides a great opportunity for the club to reconnect with our US fans before we head to Asia in July for pre-season,” said Chelsea FC Chief Executive Ron Gourlay.
