Barely a month after manager Louis van Gaal said the Spaniard was not willing to play for the club, the management of Manchester United have reportedly gone into contract talks with David de Gea.
The new deal is expected to give de Gea a £125,000 weekly wage increment, moving him from his current deal of £75,000 to a figure said to be around £200,000.
England’s World Cup record goal scorer, Gary Lineker said. “If Manchester United get David de Gea to agree a new contract it would be the best signing of the summer.”
The goalkeeper became controversial during the end-of-season break when he practically revealed his intention to play for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Indeed, the £29 million deal would have seen the light of day if last-minute “paper-work” problems had not stood in the way.
The current negotiations was said to have been given a boost by the intervention of Man Utd’s Executive Vice-Chairman, Ed Woodward who on Friday sat through negotiations after being away for some time, according to Sky Sports.
