Manchester United on Tuesday night threw away a 2 goal lead to draw 3-3 with Newcastle at Saint James Park.
Manchester United scored first in the ninth minute. Newcastle United’s Chancel Mbemba controversially handled the ball in the box and Wayne Rooney coolly converted from the penalty spot.
United made it 2-0 in the 38th minute as Wayne Rooney teed up Jesse Lingard inside the box and he rolled the ball into the bottom right corner and past Rob Elliot.
Fabricio Collocini then went close for Newcastle United with a shot that missed target by inches.
The Geordies captain played a key role in them reducing the scoreline when his long ball was headed down by Alexandre Mitrovic onto the path of Georginio Wijnaldum who did brilliantly to get to the ball and fire home.
Big chance for Manchester United came the way of Jesse Lingard who picked up an inch-perfect pass inside the box and fired the ball by a whisker of the right post.
Chris Smalling was penalised in the 66th minute for holding Alexandre Mitovic. Michael Dean signalled to the penalty spot. Mitrovic scored from it but Wijnaldum’s goal after that was ruled out for offside.
Wayne Rooney picked up the ball off a rebound in the 79th minute and from the edge of the box and unleashed a shot which went into the top left corner to make it 3-2.
The scoreline became 3-3 when Paul Dummett tried his luck in the 90th minute from the edge of the box and his shot took a deflection from Chris Smalling which went past stranded David de Gea.
Manchester United are sixth in the table while Newcastle remain in 18th position.
