A Federal High Court in Kano has sentenced a 45-year-old electrician to seven years in prison for raping a teenager.
Justice Saleh Kogo, the presiding judge gave the verdict after the accused pleaded guilty to the charge. The offence was contrary to and punishable under section 16(1) of Trafficking in Persons Act of 2015.
Mr.Abdullahi Babale, the prosecutor, while giving his argument in court said that the convict, Sallau Mohammed, had forceful carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl.
Mohammed, who hails from Kastina state and resides in Kano, was said to have raped the girl after she asked him for money. He took her to his house where he raped her.
The young girl is a Junior Secondary School three student of Hasiya Bayero Secondary School in Kano Municipal, whom the convict paid the sum of N200 after forcing her to bed, the prosecutor said.
Justice Kogo, after listening to all the pleas, then sentenced the convict to seven years imprisonment with no option of any fine.
He warned the public to be wary of such acts.
