A 24-year-old man, Boye Aladesanmi, on Friday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly beating a minor with a horsewhip.
Aladesanmi, whose address was not given, was arraigned on a count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 15 at 24, Segla Street, Ibereko, Badagry.
He said that the accused assaulted the 13-year-old by beating him severely with a horsewhip.
“”The accused used a horsewhip to beat the minor severely just because the latter mistakenly poured water on the accused.
“”The minor is now on admission in a hospital because of the severity of the assault,” he said.
Ikem said that the offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded innocent of the offence.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Jimoh Adefioye, granted the accused bail of N200,000 and one surety in like sum.
He adjourned further hearing in the case until May 23. (NAN)
