News sources from the United Kingdom have reported that the UK Metropolitan Police have arrested a man who crashed his car into the security barriers outside the UK’s Houses of Parliament injuring several people in the process.
Issuing a statement on the incident via its twitter account, London’s Metropolitan Police revealed that several pedestrians were wounded in what it called a collision as the driver of the vehicle identified as male was detained by Police officers at the scene.
Although the police refused to confirm if it was a terrorist attack, it added that it believed that nobody was in a life threatening condition as a result of the incident.
Witnesses described the event saying the car hit the UK Parliament building barriers at high speed.
“The car drove at speed into the barriers outside the House of Lords,” said Ewelina Ochab one of the witnesses.
“There was a loud bang from the collision and a bit of smoke. The driver did not get out. The guards started screaming to people to move away.” She continued.
Images had circulated on Social Media showing a policeman holding the man who was dressed in jeans as well as a black puffer jacket; Police officers had swarmed his vehicle with weapons drawn after the crash.
The Parliament was placed on lockdown; surrounding streets in the central London district were also cordoned off to the public while the metropolitan police said they were still trying to get to the bottom of the incident.

Although it appeared as if the car was deliberately crashed into the Parliament building, the UK lawmakers continued to hold their session oblivious of the commotion outside.
The UK suffered a similar attack 17 months earlier when a UK citizen born as Adrian Russell Elms and converted to radical Islam as Khalid Masood, rammed his vehicle into a crowd on Westminster Bridge before stabbing a policeman on guard outside parliament to death.
