Manchester City midfielder, David Silva has downplayed rumours linking Pep Guardiola to the managerial position at the club, saying the players are happy with present boss, Manuel Pellegrini and have never mentioned Guardiola in the dressing room.
Bayern Munich manager, Guardiola confirmed he would be leaving the club at the end of this season, when his contract runs out, and the club have already announced former Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti as his replacement.
However, speculations about the future of the Spaniard have continued to link him to the Premier League, with Manchester City being the most talked about, especially because of their lack of Champions League success despite the fund amount spent on assembling the squad.
This is even more so when the current manager of the club, Pellegrini, hinted at a future managerial role for Guardiola at the club, saying he only hoped he would be able to see out his contract, which expires in 2017, at the club.
But Silva maintained that the players have confidence in Pellegrini.
He said: “We look at it day-to-day and not what is going to happen. We are all very happy with Manuel and it’s not something that I look at.
“My only hope for 2016 is to win — to win titles.
“We didn’t win anything last year so the aim in 2016 is to win titles.”
Silva has won every major trophy in world football but not the Champions League, a trophy Guardiola won twice in his four years at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012.
