An Indian man, Pawan Kumar, says he chopped off his index finger after mistakenly voting for the wrong party in the country’s general election.
He said this in a video that has since gone viral.
In the video, Kumar’s index finger can be seen heavily bandaged while a cleaver that he is believed to have used to cut off the finger can be seen lying on the floor.
Kumar said he intended to vote for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but was confused by the various symbols on the electronic voting machine and mistakenly pushed the button for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The incident occurred in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
While the BSP’s logo is an elephant, BJP is represented by a flower.
“I wanted to vote for the elephant, but I voted for the flower by mistake,” Kumar said.
