A man in the Southern California town of Hesperia has been arrested for stealing sweets valued at £7,500 (app. N2.5 million) which were hidden in his garage.
The suspect, Jesus Ibarra, allegedly stole the sweets belonging to Mars Candy Co which did not pass inspection and were being moved in a truck to a location in San Bernardino for destruction, Riverside Press-Enterrise reported.
However, when the truck arrived at the destruction site, it was found that the candy valued at £7,500 had gone missing.
The missing sweets were traced to Ibarra’s home after adverts started popping up on the internet advertising sweets, the Sheriff’s Department said.
When authorities arrived at his home, they found his garage filled with stolen sweets.
According to reports, 30 racks of boxed candy labelled with prices were found in Ibarra’s garage.
He has since been released on bail.
The Associated Press reports that Ibarra was not available for comments when visits were paid to his home.
