A 35-year-old man was in serious condition after being bitten by a great white shark off the San Francisco Bay Area coast, authorities said on Saturday.
The man was bitten in the right leg by a shark about 2-metre long while he was swimming off Grey Whale Cove State Beach, about 30 kilometres south-west of downtown San Francisco in northern California, San Mateo County sheriff’s office said.
The beach was ordered closed.

“The male was able to swim to shore and medical aid was summoned,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The male was transported to Stanford for treatment.
Firefighters said that first responders found the man on the beach “with a confirmed bite to his body.”
“Patient was treated with advanced life support measures and transported to a local trauma centre in serious condition,” CAL FIRE San Mateo’s Santa Cruz Unit tweeted. (dpa/NAN)
