The police have finally arrested Rasak Alabi, the man who battered his wife’s niece. Pictures of Latifat Adeyemi’s battered face went viral a few days ago after she was allegedly hit on her face and head with a spanner
.
A family friend, Ibirinde Folu Francis, shared the gory pictures on Facebook while calling on the Lagos Commissioner of Police to come to her aid.
In a telephone interview with The Punch, Latifat said trouble began when she confronted her uncle-in-law concerning an air conditioner he broke into the house and removed, saying that it consumed too much power. In her words, “I saw that he broke into my apartment and removed the AC there. I was angry. I picked up my phone and called my sister that I have had it, that I don’t think I can continue staying in the house. I was still outside talking to my sister on the phone, when the man from nowhere, hit me with a spanner from behind. He said I was making noise.”
He continued to hit her until he was satisfied, Adeyemi said. She reported the incident to the police, but when they came back to the house, they found the gate locked.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, ordered Alabi’s arrest. At 1:30pm today, despite his struggles against the officials, he was arrested in his hideout and the case transferred to the command headquarters.
