The police on Monday arraigned a 52-year-old man, Adedara Sunday, over alleged stealing of 54 bags of palm kernel.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of theft before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti.
The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 25 at Igboaso area of Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade said that the accused stole 54 bags of palm kernel valued at N675,000 belonging to one Mr Otache Oyigocho.
He said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer, Mr Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant him bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, in his ruling, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegboye said that one of the sureties must be a civil servant.
He adjourned the case until July 4 for hearing. (NAN)
