A 35-year-old man, Isaac Uwem, was on Thursday docked at a Badagry Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N1,030,000 under false pretences.
Umem, whose address and occupation were not disclosed in court, is facing one-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences.
The Prosecutor, ASP Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in April 2017 at No 17, James Avenue, Off Jah Michael Bus Stop, Oko-Afo, Lagos.
Ikem said that the accused collected the sum from one Chidimma Nzeh on the pretext of helping her to process traveling documents to United States of America.
“But the accused failed to fulfill his part of the agreement he made with Nzeh, the complainant,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened Section 312 of the Criminal Law of LagosState, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaya, granted the accused N500, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.
Adekomaya adjourned the case until April 16, for mention. (NAN)
