Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja has said that Malaria is the most deadly disease in the world.
Oke said this during a conference organised by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria in Lagos.
Oke said “Malaria is the most dangerous disease in the world because it kills more people than any other disease. While many people are said to be resistant to the HIV virus, the same cannot be said of malaria. But, we must not fear because it can be controlled and prevented. Where there is a will, there is a way.”
A Malariologist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi- Araba, Prof. Wellington Oyibo, Prof. Wellington Oyibo identified drug resistance, poor knowledge and non-compliance with intervention strategies as the major factors against malaria control in the country.
He added that 90 per cent of Malaria deaths occur in Africa.
