Abdulrasheed Maina who is the former Chairman of the Pensions Reform Task Force Team has filed a lawsuit against Reno Omokri, the media aide to former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, over corruption charges leveled against him in a national daily.
Maina has made a demand of N4 billion as compensation fees for the alleged defamatory publication.
The Vanguard Media Limited Publisher was also incriminated as he was sued alongside Reno Omokri because his media organization is responsible for publishing the defamatory allegations.
Maina asked the court to declare the September 12 publication of the Vanguard newspaper titled “General Buhari’s Cambridge Certificate is as non-existent as Louis Odion’s self-esteem” as defamatory and libelous.

According to the claimant, he said the Vanguard Publication in a bid to sully his reputation, classified him as corrupt which is very untrue.
“Who is super corrupt between Atiku, who is the most investigated politician in Nigeria, without anything being found against him, and a General Buhari, who loaded his cabinet with corruption gold medalist?“If Mr. Louis Odion says General Buhari has integrity, then I have the following question for him.
“Why was Goje’s N25 billion corruption dropped, who owns Ikoyi apartment billions, when will #AishaMBuhari”s ADC be tried and who reinstated and double-promoted Maina?”
The Claimant asserted that the publication portrayed him as someone of questionable character who was re-instated through unscrupulous means and hence, can not be entrusted with public funds as he benefits from corruption.

Maina averred that there was no truth to the libelous publications which was orchestrated solely to ridicule him, to sully his reputation, denying that he was neither double promoted by the President nor was any letter of promotion issued to him.
A date is yet to be fixed for the hearing of the suit which was filed last Friday
