A fresh plot to frustrate the probe of Ibrahim Magu, suspended Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been uncovered as unknown men burgled National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU)
NFIU houses sensitive financial information of major government agencies.
However, it was a shock to discover the NFIU office located in Aso Rock could be burgled amid tight security.
The unidentified burglars stole seven computers containing sensitive documents while others were badly damaged.
The incident believed to have happened overnight was discovered Friday morning by security operatives.
This is coming on the heels of Magu’s arrest and subsequent suspension as Acting Chairman of the anti-graft agency.
According to This Day, NFIU staff told Justice Ayo Salami some documents could not be presented to the Presidential Panel as some staff were not allowed to take vital information from the office due to their sensitive nature
The Panel investigating fraud allegations against Magu decided to go to NFIU office on Friday to sight the documents.
Unfortunately, they were burgled and destroyed overnight before the Presidential Panel could see them.
NFIU is the only agency authorized to gather intelligence on Ibrahim Magu, embattled EFCC boss.
The burglary incident may stall the investigation on Ibrahim Magu, embattled EFCC Boss.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of NFIU, Mr. Modibbo Hamman-Tukur reported the incident to the President which sources said informed Buhari’s decision to approve Magu’s suspension and appoint a new Acting Chairman, Mohammed Umar.
