Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has defended the actions of the operatives of EFCC who in recent times have been accused of raiding nightclubs to arrest alleged internet fraudsters.
According to him, raiding nightclubs make it easy for EFCC to locate the suspected fraudsters as they are fond of gathering at the clubs to exuberantly lavish the money looted from their victims. He also emphasized that raiding nightclubs are usually executed based on credible intelligence.
The most recent raid which was carried out by EFCC was one done in a nightclub located Ibadan, capital of Oyo State in which they arrested nothing less than 89 people suspected to internet fraudsters.
Magu said;
“If it is nightclubs, these are the places the yahoo boys gather and spend the money. There is nothing wrong in raiding the yahoo boys at nightclubs.”
“It is not about nightclub, raiding of nightclubs is left to the police, we don’t have much power, and we will go there when we are sure it is the fraudsters.
“We are not raiding nightclub, we are going after the yahoo yahoo boys and we always do that when we have a credible intelligence.”
Magu further stated that the suspected internet fraudsters are young boys with high intelligence and useful prospects who need the support of the society to help rehabilitate them.
He said;
“What we will do is that we have to collaborate to rehabilitate them into the society. These are small boys who are intelligent, they can be useful.
