1 Min Read

Suliyat Ifetayo, 30, who allegedly stole a three-year-old child, on Wednesday appeared at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused of no fixed address was charged with stealing.

The court did not take the plea of the accused who was alleged to have shown signs of being mentally unstable.

The magistrate, Mrs Olaitan Ajayi, said that the accused should be taken to a psychiatric hospital for examination.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Ejembi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 2, at No. 14, Amusu St., Ijora Badia, Lagos.

He said the mother of the minor, one Suliyat Onilari, reported the case at the Trinity Police Station, Apapa on the same date.

According to him, the accused went to the playground where the minor was playing and carried her.

Ejembi added that while the accused was trying to escape with the minor, she was apprehended and handed over to the police.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The magistrate adjourned the case until July 28. (NAN)
