An Abia woman may have landed herself in trouble after she allegedly confessed to selling her grandson for N100,000.
The un-named woman was said to have travelled with the three-year-old boy, but returned to her village of Onitsha Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State a week later without him.
When she was questioned as to the whereabouts of the boy by villagers, she reportedly said she had sold the boy to a native doctor in Akwa Ibom State for N100,000, and would like to use the proceeds to buy a motorcycle before the end of December.
Fellow villagers then contacted the police. But the woman reportedly changed her story, telling all who cared to listen that the boy was with her sister in Aba.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relation’s Officer, Udeviotu Onyeke, said the woman had been detained at Umuobiakwa pending the conclusion of investigations.
Onyeke, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the woman’s mental health is under scrutiny, while stating that the command will leave no stone unturned in making sure they unravel the mystery behind the boy’s disappearance.
