The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has reacted to allegations by the boss of an 18yr old Salesgirl who was raped by a dispatcher.
@_Temitopebukola and @yiudiee had alleged on Twitter that the management of LUTH demanded for the case against the rapist be dropped before PEP would be administered to the victim.
In a statement issued by the Hospital management on Saturday, the narrative was described as false and totally misleading.
The statement said that indeed a middle aged woman had brought in a young girl saying a PEP was needed because she had been raped. At this point the victim was in the car of the woman.
The officer in charge of the Accident and Emergency section thereafter discussed the next steps to take with the senior Registrar on duty at the Obstetrics and Gynecology in the presence of the woman.
She was thereafter informed that PEP would be administered once the victim was formerly registered with the hospital while the legal aspect will be addressed through an established legal process in Lagos State.
The woman thereafter informed the LUTH officials that the case had already been reported to the police which was why the PEP was needed.
At this point she was given a slip for registration and told she would be charged for treatment when she inquired if it was free of charge.
According to the statement, that was the last time the woman was seen.
The statement said at no point in time did any LUTH official approach the woman to drop the charges against the rapist.
