Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku, has called on other footballers to take a stand against racism after being on the end of racist abuse from Cagliari fans on Sunday.
Chants of “Monkey” could be heard as the Belgian international stepped up to take a spot-kick and still continued after converting it for Inter’s second goal and decider of the game.
Former Juventus striker, Moise Kean, was also on the receiving end of the racist chants by the Cagliari fans last season.
The 26-year old, Lukaku sent the Cagliari goalkeeper Robin Olsen the wrong way to score his second goal in as many games for his new club with twenty minutes to go in the match.
“I think that in Italy we must improve a lot and be more educated and respectful towards those doing their job,” Inter coach Antonio Conte told a news conference.
“In other countries, you support the team, you don’t insult the opposition like this. There must be maximum respect.”
“Today I was treated well and wasn’t insulted, other times it hasn’t happened like that and it’s not nice.”
The former Manchester United forward has called on footballers around the world to make a collective stand against racism in sports.
