The Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Mohammad Dingyadi, has commended residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and personnel of the Nigeria police for their understanding and compliance to the Federal Government lockdown order.

Dingyadi gave the commendation on Thursday in Abuja when he visited some locations in the FCT to monitor the conduct of police personnel deployed for the enforcement of the lockdown order.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of police officers deployed for the exercise and the level of voluntary compliance by FCT residents.
The minister said the lockdown was imposed by the Federal Government to contain the spread of covid-19.
“From what I have seen during this monitoring exercise, I think the situation is good. People are complying and police officers are everywhere on the roads trying to ensure that the compliance is sustained
“We are very happy with what we have seen, we will continue to call on Nigerians to ensure they continue to comply and ensure that policemen on the streets are doing the right things.
“We have always train them to conduct themselves professionally and from what I have seen, I think things are going on smoothly,” he said.
Dingyadi said the ministry was not aware of any form of brutality by police personnel deployed for the exercise, but called on Nigeria to ensure report of any form of brutality by the police.
“If there is any case of brutality, please let us know and we will make sure that we deal with it accordingly.
“We have procedures and systems that ensures that people are dealt with when they are wrong” he added.
The minister urged Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of the Federal Government towards containing the spread of the deadly virus.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police in charge of FCT Command, Mr Bala Ciroma pledged to ensure proper investigation of any complaints of human right abuses received during the exercise.
He said the command had given its personnel deployed for the enforcement, a matching order to be professional.
According to him, citizens must realise that this virus is threatening the very existence of mankind.
He called on the public to cooperate with the Police adding that the threat of COVID-19 would only be defeated with public cooperation.
