Glen Johnson could become the next England full-back to ply his trade abroad joining the likes of Ashley Cole and Micah Richards who are in Roma and Fiorentina respectively.
The defender,30, will be out-of-contract at Liverpool next summer and, as things stand, is entitled to speak to foreign clubs once the January transfer window opens. He already knows how to speak Spanish having picked up the language in an effort to talk to the Hispanophones at Liverpool, such as Luis Suarez.
It would be reckless on the part of Liverpool to risk losing the player on a free transfer but he is yet to be offered a new deal after six years at the club. The player might be sold in January to another English club or sign a pre-contract agreement abroad.
The major issue would be Johnson’s wages which is in the region of £100,000-per-week. Liverpool do not want to pay that.
According to the Telegraph, it is understood that Johnson, who is not seeking a long-term deal and would consider a 12-month contract, is yet to receive any formal offer from Liverpool.
