Liverpool Equal Record After Burnley Win

2 Min Read

Liverpool are back within two points of Manchester City after surviving a scare against Burnley to finally run out 3-1 winners in a tense game.

Jack Cork put Burnley ahead with the scrappiest of goals and with Liverpool floundering it looked like it could be a night where Liverpool drop points.

But the team refuses to lose faith getting back into the game through James Milner, before substitute, Roberto Firminho and Xherdan Shaqiri added to more goals to make the game safe

The win means that Liverpool have equalled a defensive record conceding only six goals in their first 15 Premier League games this season.

This equals the top-flight English league record at this stage of a season, with Man Utd in 1985-86, Arsenal in 1990-91, Chelsea in 2004-05 and Chelsea in 2008-09 being the only other teams that have done it.

And while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was happy with the result, he bemoaned the injury to Joe Gomez which came as a result of some reckless challenges.

“I said after the first challenge, I don’t know who did it, sliding tackle from six-seven yards, getting the ball, everybody likes it. I said to the ref ‘it’s no foul but please tell them you cannot do that.’” Klopp said

“Nobody can judge that. You get the ball, nice, but it’s like bowling. Because you get the player as well.

“It happened four or five times, everybody likes it, but Joe is injured, and probably not only a little bit. We don’t know in the moment, we sent him home so we have to see, but it’s his ankle.”
