The match started with a settled tempo as the home team looked to read the game before pushing more in the game, Chelsea had the first corner kick by Victor Moses who drove into the defence of United.
Chelsea kept pressing the game as Willian continued his fine form, dribbling past Lindelof and Smalling. In the 23rd minute though, Chelsea were ahead. Hazard slotted a fine up pass to Willian who was free with no Man United defender in the box, he drove in to shoot past David DeGea who did not see the shot coming and could do nothing to prevent it.
Sanchez had a glorious chance to level but took a weak shot which Courtois had no problem dealing with.
Sanchez rolled round their defence with Martial to complete a 1-2 pass with Romelu Lukaku who easily placed the ball to the left corner down to level for the home side to make it 1-1 before the break.
After the break, United as if on instructions from manager Jose Mourinho slowed the game down and kept possession. United did have more possession in the second half as Martial and Sanchez kept dribbling past the Chelsea defence line. In the 74th minute Lingard was brought on to replace Martial and proved to be the game’s winner as four minutes later Lukaku turned provider, crossing the ball into the box for Lingard to nod past Courtois to give United a well-deserved lead.
Morata had a chance to level for the visitors but could not make good use of the ball and David De Gea saved easily. Hazard was taken off for Olivier Giroud and Cesc Fabregas was also subbed in for Danny Drinkwater but they were unable to add any impact to the game as their attacks came to nothing.
United kept their balance by holding the ball Lukaku forced Courtois to make another save as he looped the ball but Courtois was smart enough to flip the ball for a corner kick.
The game ended at Old Trafford with Manchester United 2 Chelsea 1
Elsewhere, a late Harry Kane goal was all Tottenham Hotspur needed to win against Crystal Palace. Palace started brightly as they kept Tottenham Hotspurs out of the game with good defensive work all through the first half.
Spurs pressed more in the second half as England international Harry Kane forced Hennessy the Palace goalie to make numerous saves in the game but Spurs kept their own by adding more pressure in the Palace defense.
In the 88th-minute Danish captain Christian Erikson looped a superb cross to Kane as the premier league top scorer added to his tally of the season to spoil the reputable work Palace had put in and winning yet another 3 points for Tottenham.
