Libya have pulled out as hosts of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations due to political upheaval.
Reports published on CAF’s website on Saturday confirmed this with a message which read “owing to the unstable security situation in the country, Libya would not be able to host the AFCON in 2017.”
Libya were unable to host the 2013 AFCON due to political crisis, and ended up swapping with South Africa who were suppose to host the 2017 edition.
However reports from Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Saturday confirmed that the country would once again withdraw from hosting the competition.
CAF secretary general, Hicham El Amrani has made the offer open for countries capable of replacing Libya to come forward with bids.
Deadline for submission of bids is September 30 2014, and a new host country will be announced in 2015.
“The CAF Executive Committee will select a host country whose dossier guarantees that accommodation, transportation and hotels
facilities, as well as training sites and stadiums already exist,” a CAF statment said.
